We choose to blog about leaders executed or dead for their ideals.

Why have we chosen this subject?
ØThe diversity of styles of leaderships through the times
ØThe diversity of ways of actually acting for their purpose, their ideals
ØThe ideals they fought for could be from different natures but they all had in common that they died for it or because of it
ØSome of them are“unknown” by the public knowledge but still they are leaders who have really influenced their generation and the generations after.

How did we select them?
}They are people who managed to convince their peers thanks to their charisma, ideas, accomplishments…
}They instigated big waves of acceptation and support for their cause/ideal
}They inspired and elevated people to a higher level of their potential/ self-confidence/ freedom…

MALCOLM X

Malcolm X was Born on 19th of May, 1925 under the name of Malcolm Little, and also known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz.

His father Earn Little was strongly involved in the African community rights defense. 

As a result Malcolm’s family has been the target of several racist attacks among which one ended by the death of Earn Little.

Malcolm was however a very good student until one of his teacher told him that he would never become a lawyer because of his African origins. Frustrated,  he began to sink into the crime organization until he got arrested and sentenced 10 years for armed robbery. 

During his time in jail Malcolm converted to the Nation of Islam a organization spreading strong anti-white values and defending the African people as the orginal people and the white as devils.

Malcolm shortly became one of the most influent spokesmen of the organization until he left in 1954 after a discord with Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the Nation of Islam.  

After that he created his own organization and got involved into politic giving him the opportunity to meet great leaders such as Fidel Castro or Martin Luther King.

However even though he got growing admiration from the African community it was in proportion with growing hatred both from the Nation of Islam and from the white nationalist people.

That situation ended by his murder on the 21^st of February, 1965 as he began a talk in New York.

His controversial vision about the supremacy of the black people clearly contributed in the rise of self-confidence of the Afro American community even though detractors considered he was not helping improving relationships between races. 

However in the period before his death, he had began to question his initial vision into a new one more tolerant aiming to fight any kind of racism. In this new own enterprise he could really demonstrate his quality of leader by being his own master and not listening to a superior entity.

Larbi Ben M'HIDI

Mohammed Larbi Ben M'hidi was a prominent Algerian leader during the war of independence. Ben M'hidi was the last member of the FLN's Coordinating and Executing Committee (C.C.E) during the Battle of Algiers. He was captured by French paratroopers in 1957 and was later killed in custody. He is considered to be a national hero in Algeria.

On 30 March 1954, Larbi Ben M'hidi was among nine men that formed the Comité Révolutionnaire d’Unité et d’Action (CRUA)

On 10 October 1954, Larbi Ben M'hidi and five other members of the CRUA approved the transformation, thus giving birth to the Front de Liberation Nationale (FLN) and the establishment of the Armée de Libération Nationale (ALN).

On 1 November 1954, an unknown organisation to the French had claimed responsibility for all of the attacks that were made on French targets. These attacks were referred to as military operations by the then unknown organisation, the Front de Liberation Nationale (FLN).

Larbi Ben M'hidi was one of the six men that were conducting the rebellion internally

The details regarding Larbi Ben M'hidi's arrest are quite controversial, as there are several versions which contradict those of the French.[4] 

According to French sources, parachutists burst into an apartment on Rue Claude Debussy, in the European quarter, and arrested Larbi Ben M'hidi in his pajamas.

Ben M'hidi was tortured and then executed by the French Special Services while in Aussaresses's custody. Ben M’hidi was driven to an outlying farm where he was hanged “to make it look like suicide".

His death was announced on March 6, 1957.

General Aussaresses admitted in 2000 the use of torture during the war and sought to justify it. He also recognized the assassination of lawyer Ali Boumendjel and of Ben M'Hidi.

Abraham LINCOLN

 

Abraham Lincoln born in February, 12, 1809 was the first republican to be elected president of the United States. 

He was a self-made man, he grew up in a poor family and became by his own ways a country lawyer, an Illinois state legislator, and a one-term member of the United States House of Representatives. Even if he failed in some ways (two unsuccessful attempts to be elected to the US Senate), he managed to bring a major wave of opposition to the slavery in his country. 

He was elected in 1860 for this purpose. The country was going through a great crisis at many levels. He managed to deal with civil war and keep the Union, abolished slavery and launched a modernization of the financial and economic system. 

He had to be very strict against confederate soldiers even if they were from the same nation and never backed down in this “war for peace”. The Union and his “popularity” are still intact in this country thanks to his revolutionary Thirteenth amendment in the US Constitution.

He knew how to around himself with leaders to deal with the new social order he instituted in the country. The transition was hard to set up considering the phenomenal change it was for the traditional systems and morals. Thus it is not very surprising that he was killed in April, 15, 1865 by a confederate sympathizer. 

He was the first US president to be assassinated and still he conducted the country to civil war he is now considered as one of the most important president in the history of the United States.
